REPORT, Committee on Appointments and Briefings, recommending that the City Council take “NO FURTHER ACTION” on the WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Giesta, Council President Abreu, Councillors Carney and Dunn, requesting that the Traffic Commission and the Administration immediately rescind their policy which was instituted on June 24, 2022, in which the Traffic Commission voted to increase metered parking fines throughout New Bedford by 100% from $10 to $20 at their May 18, 2022 meeting.

REPORT, Committee on Appointments and Briefings, recommending that the City Council take “NO FURTHER ACTION” on the WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Gomes, requesting, that the Committee on Appointments and Briefings meet with a representative from the Mitchell Administration, DPI Commissioner Jamie Ponte and a representative from New Bedford Waste Services, the company that took over for ABC Disposal, regarding the charges for the disposal of household items in the City in New Bedford; and further, to discuss the high cost on City residents to dispose of household goods and trash; and further, that the Administration look at the contract to see what its provisions are for household item pick up and what the agreement was with the City.

WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Gomes, requesting, that the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods meet with the New Bedford Police Union for the purpose of discussing the Union’s concerns expressed in a letter from the Union leadership and the vote of no confidence in Police Chief Paul Oliveira; this letter also called on City leadership to look into and address the Union’s concerns. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillor Baptiste, requesting, that the Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods invite Chief of Police Paul Oliveira to a meeting to discuss the Police Department's policy and procedures on reporting crime to the public and to City officials, specifically regarding shootings taking place in New Bedford, and what can be done to better inform the public and City officials of the basic facts related to shooting incidents in a timely manner without jeopardizing any Police investigation into a particular matter; and further, that the Committee discuss with the Chief Oliveira how general crime statistics for New Bedford can be made available on a regular basis to members of the Committee.
